Practice Video: Music Video 1
Mushaboom – Feist (Music Video)
In this first attempt at making a full music video learned a lot.
I learned:
- when to queue a transition and how to add the correct transition
- how to edit videos so that it looks like they were all filmed with the same lighting and effects
- to match stop in the song to transitions, and finally
- to always plan before filing a music video.
For this video, we filmed at various locations around London, more specifically Warren Street. it was around 4.30pm in February resulting in an early sunset so when we filmed it was beginning to get dark. by the end of it, the sky was pitch black.
Before we met up to film we asked our model to wear dark clothing with a pop of colour with hair braided in one way or another. She kindly agreed, and the look tied in perfectly with the settings we had planned to visit. The reason we asked her to braid her hair was to add an element of culture to the character that we wanted to create.

In the process of putting this music video together I basically just found the best cuts of each tape and put them together to make the video make sense. I also listened to the lyrics to help analyse the situation so that the video would be fluid and not feel as if it was just a bunch of cut outs together.
I added the to black bars and a 'Light Mud Splatter' effect to the whole video to add a sort of old film feel to it. The black bars helped it look more cinematic and professional and the 'Light Mud Splatter' helped it look like old film, so did the transition effect I used that made it looks like a reel of film. in the beginning and the end of the video I added a 'Dissolve' effect to make it seem like the video faded in and out as it began and ended. All these effects put together helped the overall video a lot better and much more professional that could have ever been. I also added a tittle to the beginning in a digital pixelated style that complemented the old feel of the overall video.
In the future, I think I would plan the shots and the settings a little better. When shooting this video, we did not consider the time and when the sun would set. We also didn't consider the fact that because of this all the shots would look inconsistent together. And ultimately, we did not think of what our model would be doing. in our last-minute panic, we asked her to improvise the same dance in various locations so that that would be the common factor in all the cuts. I think that next time we could do all these things a lot better and consider all these things we did not think about before.
Making this video was a great earning experience and I believe it can help us produce something better in the future.
These are the shots we took for this video edited and ready to put together. I used VSCO Cam (a picture and video editing app) to edit all of these videos.
