Music Video: Edit 8

In this edit, my partner tried a different computer-generated typeface called Londrina. This font was quite successful as it presented a youthful feeling and it was also very simple and neat, reinforcing the professionalism of the video, however, the font was quite thin making it quite hard to see what was written, defeating the purpose of the title. Because of this, she thought of maybe trying a more classic font such as Times New Roman and decided to try that in the next edit. At the end of the video, she also added a new transition as the previous one was just a little too abrupt. She changed it so that it fades to white.


I completely support all the decisions taken in this edit.  I would, however, at this stage, already be thinking of maybe adding black bars to the video to give it more of a polished professional look. I don’t see her thinking of adding black bars to the video, but I would recommend adding them as they significantly elevate the quality of the video and bring them up to a much higher standard. I would also think of maybe instead of transitioning/fading to white, I would personally have transitioned into black only because the connotation of a film transitioning into white is usually related to a dream or heaven, I don’t believe that is something we were trying to go for. I also believe that the fading into white implies that there is still something else coming after that run, instead of just the end of the video. I believe black would be a better transition only because it feels more natural as usually on YouTube (the website we have decided to post our video on) usually closes videos off by fading into black. This means the audience would automatically associate black with the end of the video and expect nothing more after that scene. Regardless, I do enjoy the progression of the video.

Analysis: Despacito - Luis Fonsi ft Daddy Yankee (Music Video)

Despacito - Luis Fonsi ft. Daddy Yankee – The video begins with a beautiful view, setting the scene with an acoustic sounding version of the song subtly playing in the background. It’s a beautiful beach in Puerto Rico, the hometown of the lead musician. A child is shown running into a chicken coop and trying to catch a chicken. After this we get the first glimpse of the women that seems to be the topic of the song, walking down the pathway. The scene is shortcut off to show a long-shot view of the favela type houses stacked on top of each other in front of the beach we had seen previously. This once again helps with reinforcing the set of the scene. The inspiration behind this video I believe is Latin America meets Spanish music and influence. This theme is well developed throughout the video as salsa, a Spanish dance is incorporated into the video along with the style of the music and the Latin American landscape.
