Music Video: Edit 7

This edit was the first post my partner added the illustrated digital drawings. The addition of these doodles, as we refer to them, was very effective. As she mentioned before, the overlays show a progression in colour in relation to the rainbow. The order the colours go in is yellow, orange, pink, red, purple, blue. She chose this as our first focus group indicated to us that they preferred illustrations with colour in them. Through editing, my partner struggled with sizing as the images would rapidly become pixelated because they were stretched. She believes the best component of the video is the imagery doodle. However, she still believes that the typeface looks a little messy and “made at home”. Next, she looks to re-edit and replace the typeface with computer generated fonts. I don’t believe this was the best idea, but I hope in the long run it works out well. If I was present during this editing session, I would have maybe gone against that proposal and insisted that we finish the rest of the editing and then later did a focus group to see what our audience feel about computer generated fonts opposed to hand-drawn digitalised illustrations. With this response, we would have determined what we keep and what we discard. I also believe that at this stage we could have focused more on the cuts rather than the illustrations. Because she hadn’t completely finished editing the cuts between each run, I believe we could have focused more on cutting each bit of footage in a way that matches the beat and creates a rhythm within the video. At this point, I believe the addition of the illustrations were impulsive and we could have perfected the cuts before adding them. I would have also appreciated if she had added maybe some sort of filter over the video to give it more of a precise look. At the moment, the footage looks quite “made at home” and “home movie” like because of the fact that the footage is in its natural state. I believe that if we had added a filter that maybe infers the temperature by adding a blue tint over the footage or that implies darkness in the room by elevating the contrast, the footage would have been much more effective. It also could have looked more professional as we would have edited the footage to fit the agenda of the video.

DISCLAIMER:

I was not part of the creation of this music video, even though I would have loved to be. I had no availability during this time to help her edit this music video. I have made no contribution to this edit.
