Creation of: Digital Package and Advertisement

Overlays:

My partner created overlays that we could use on top of the pictures we took for the digipack. this was very useful as we could implement the doodles from the music video into the advert correlating the digital package, the music video and the advertisement. My partner created specialised illustrations to have placed on top of the images of our model. She did this to once again connect the music video to the digipack and the advert.

(Because my partner changed the opening title to our music video to white we thought it would only make sense to have the title of the digipack and the advert in white as well to connect all the productions to each other)

Photoshoot:

We wanted to make our photo shoot for the Digipack somewhere that resembles London. We chose a simple London suburban neighbourhood that didn’t have much going on, a place that anyone could identify with regardless of where they live. The artist of the song, Chane the Rappers music is quite laid back and tends to resemble reality and relatability. Because of this we chose the location for our photo shoot in an appropriate place. A place that was as relatable and real as possible. We thought that by locating our photoshoot in a super fancy, savvy location dressed in high-end fashion we would only be relatable to a selective audience. This is exactly what we were avoiding, therefore, choosing a more relatable simple location worked better because everyone can relate and identify with it. This being a simple suburban neighbourhood. Considering the name of the song is All Night we thought of having the photoshoot at night to correlate with the title, but later, considering Levi Strauss’ theory on Binary opposites, we thought that our digipack would be more effective if our photoshoot was in the daytime to contrast with the title. We thought this would play out a lot better and would intrigue the audience, therefore, cultivating interest. What we did was have a photoshoot in the daytime on a day that had clear sunny skies. We did this to take advantage f the lighting and to completely contrast the Night Theme that the title infers.

Mise-En-Scene:

In order to remain consistent throughout all design aspects, we chose to dress the model in the same bright red puffer jacket that she was seen wearing throughout the music video. This bright red puffer jacket was what was used to identify her throughout the video, so we thought it would make sense to have her wear the same red jacket in both the digipack and the advert. Also considering consistency we thought of adding illustrations to both our digipack and our advert to correlate with the music video. We didn't, however, have her wear the rest of the outfit. We thought the jacket was enough.

Design:

Our focus groups helped us make many decisions in the process of creating this digipack and advert. We understood that our audience found it was important to consider the colour scheme I order to achieve a successful production. They quite liked the use of colour for our music video doodles, therefore, we concluded that they might enjoy colour in the digipack and the advert. My partner came up with some potential colour schemes we could use:

My partner created some templates for what our digipack could look like, considering we use a border. She came up with this idea as she and I had used borders in our Foundation Portfolios and they worked wonderfully but because we didn’t add them to our music video it wouldn’t make sense to add them to the digipack.

She also created a mock-up of what she thought the digipack could look like. Her idea was to use a longshot picture with mostly sky taking up the space and have the text in the sky with some drawings over it. She quite enjoyed the idea of one long image being cut off into two, creating one long image covered by two spots.

Aditional Ideas:

My idea for the digipack track list was to have a picture of the models face in a close-up shot. I thought we could use this image, edit it and cut it right down the middle of her face so we could use the empty space next to her face to add the track list. By having her face on the digipack so close, I found would connect the audience to the artist and therefore the artist. I thought this could also humanise the model as she could be seen as someone very far away from them, considering Dyer's star theory I wanted to implement the star paradox to our digipack.

I also thought that we could feature lyrics in our digipack of some of the most popular songs on the album. This could encourage the audience to sing and learn the lyrics creating a deeper relationship between the artist and his/her fans. We could also use some of our extra pictures from the photo shoot to feature on the page with lyrics, therefore still referencing the model and the music video.
I also wanted to make the digipack into a little booklet rather than a long fold-out digipack. I though a booklet could be more practical and allows our audience to maybe rip out some photography or pages they liked the most.

These ideas were considered but ultimately, we ended up using my partner's ideas. We found they were more effective.
