Music Video Analysis: Video Inspiration

Image
In the process of finding the concept for our music video, we watched many videos. we did this to compare with our ideas and to help us find our own concept  These are some of the Music Videos we watched and liked. From these we liked either the narrative, camerawork, overall idea or even mise-en-scene decisions: Solange - Cranes in the Sky H.E.R. - Every Kind Of Way B's + H's - Jhene Aiko Justin Bieber - Company Justin Bieber & BloodPop - Friends Solange - DONT TOUCH MY HAIR Willow Smith - Female Energy Kae Sun - Ship and The Globe Khalid - Saved Kendrick Lamar - LOVE. ft. Zacari How Do I Know When I'm Really in Love? | Going There Chloe x Halle - Grown (From Grownish) - Official Music Video From each of these music videos, we picked out parts and shots that we liked and built ideas from them to add to our eventual music video. We planned on using some of these id

Analysis: Despacito - Luis Fonsi ft Daddy Yankee (Music Video)

Image
Despacito - Luis Fonsi ft. Daddy Yankee – The video begins with a beautiful view, setting the scene with an acoustic sounding version of the song subtly playing in the background. It’s a beautiful beach in Puerto Rico, the hometown of the lead musician. A child is shown running into a chicken coop and trying to catch a chicken. After this we get the first glimpse of the women that seems to be the topic of the song, walking down the pathway. The scene is shortcut off to show a long-shot view of the favela type houses stacked on top of each other in front of the beach we had seen previously. This once again helps with reinforcing the set of the scene. The inspiration behind this video I believe is Latin America meets Spanish music and influence. This theme is well developed throughout the video as salsa, a Spanish dance is incorporated into the video along with the style of the music and the Latin American landscape. After this , the music gets louder and louder and we are

Analysis: J Cole - False Prophets (Music Video)

Image
J Cole  – False Prophets - J Coles video for his song “False Prophets” is performed in a very informal way, basically walking through his day showing us, the viewers, a day in his life, in his neighborhood surrounded by everyday encounters. It's filmed in a loose, shaky way as if it were filmed by an amateur. At the beginning of this video the artist, J Cole, is sat on the seat of a bus stop watching out for the bus. The environment he is surrounded by seems familiar according to his calm and natural attitude. The cutaway shots between when Cole raps towards the camera show snippets of children playing, men sitting outside a corner shop, people we suppose he would see on a day to day walk in his neighborhood, we see him taking pictures with fans, standing to rapping outside a house that seems familiar to him. This gives us the feeling that he is in a place he feels comfortable with, a place he is familiar with, with people he may now. We see different people from

Analysis: Solange - Cranes in the Sky (Music Video)

Image
From the video Cranes in the Sky sung and directed by Solange, we took the element of simplicity. The element of calmness and the display of the black female body. In this video we don't follow any story or build relationships with any significant characters, instead, we watch all these people perform these beautifully simple choreographed bits that complement the song in such a way that it becomes seamless. Riddled throughout the video there were also shots with solo choreography. these scenes, I also found very beautiful and I felt we could implement into our own music video. I thought we could add our own sort of repetitive choreographed dance throughout the video. I believe this video is supposed to be more focused on the aesthetic part rather than storytelling or to leave a message. I believe that the message of this song is a lot deeper than just the video. The message she is trying to put across from the lyrics of the song is a lot more than what ca
